There was heartbreaking episode that happened on the mid night around 12:30am of the 19thApril 2016 which 6 children plus their blind grandmother were shot dead while they were sleeping in their temporary cottage by armed militiamen, after shooting, the militiamen put fire on the cottage that burnt to ash and the dead bodies could not be recognized.

The mother whose name is HALIMO OSMAN OMAR did narrowly escape with a 12 year old child in to the bush after hearing the different sound of bullets from a very near place to their sleeping cottage.

The area whereby this incident happened is a pastoral area as the family was nomadic and used to keep goats, sheep and some cattle and it is in between SHALANBOOD and JEEBEY Zone called DUDUMO near SINAY at the side of the Indian Ocean coastline.

The father of this family died of unidentified disease just a year ago and left behind 5 children with their pregnant mother and the mother delivered after 6 months of the father’s death.

The mother was taken to MERKA by the paternal uncles of the killed children where she is currently under the states of coma.

Some sources say that; the militiamen who did take this merciless action were having the government military dresses and they came from SHALANBOOD town and theses Persons are the suspects to be involved in this brutal action of killing the 6 children plus their grandmother and they always staying in SHALANBOOD and BUULO-MARRER and some are named for government position.

  I as the humanitarian rights defender for the indigenous people rights in the Lower Shebelle region of Somalia kindly request the actors of the humanitarian rights and the international communities to intervene and make investigation about this merciless action which is a genocide of 6 children plus their grandmother and put the perpetrators on justice.

Some small report about the current situations in the region:

Most of the towns have been liberated out from ALSHABAAB in different dates since 2013 by the Somalia National Army with the help of the AMISON and are now under the control of the government.

This region has been experiencing civil wars which claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands of families to the neighboring regions and also to the neighboring countries as well as caused many Villages to be burnt to ash since the start of the ALSHABAAB liberation out of the towns.

The accessibilities of the humanitarian agencies in this region is very restricted and also the local Medias are also experiencing the same due to the insecurity issues which mostly is being caused by a company of factors like; the existence of this civil wars which started almost the middle of 2014 between the two clans called BIYAMAAL of sun-clan DIR and HABAR-GIDIR of sub-clan HAWIYE and the continues confrontations between the AS and the federal government, so, I as the Hunan Right Defender working in low-profile in this region in order to get familiar with the exact information in order to share with the actors of Human Rights, the international communities and, humanitarian agencies and other stake holders.

The federal government did not give much efforts to manage the conflict between these two tribes,so,the government failed to end and the areas that this civil wars is affecting seriously is MARKO and its surrounding Villages like;JANAALE,SHALNBOOD,NUMBER-50,BUUFOW- BA’AAD,CEELWAREGOW,CEEL-JAALE,BUULO-NAAGEY and some small others.

The main reasons why this conflict is continuing are the following;

• The war is going for 3 years and just started after one of the President, Hassan Sheikh Mohammud came into the Power, so HAWIYE Clan attached MERKA town and ousted the admisntrtaion body which was coming from the BIYOMAAL tribe in the middle of 2014 and up to there is no administration in the town as HAWAR-GIDIR Millais are controlling by forcing the indigenous people to flee whereas the government claiming that they are Somali Military forces, so lack of impartial from this government.
• This Current federal government sends military forces to this region who hail from HAWAR-GIDIR tribe like, good example is; the 3rd Somali military unity operating in the lower Shebelle are only composed of HAWAR-GIDIR tribe and led by the former well known warlord called GOOBAALE who hails from HWAR-GIDIR, so, these military forces are killing the indigenous people and raping to force them to shift in order for their tribe members to get government position in the region.

  This current federal government did fail the indigenous people to recruit for the military forces in order to operate their own locations.

I as Human rights defender for the Indigenous people living in the Lower Shebelle of Somalia call upon the UNSOM, AMISOM,EGAD,EU, USA and other stakeholders to investigate what is happening and to put pressure this Current federal Government for stopping this continues conflicts which the indigenous people are victimized in order to move them away and consider the rights of the indigenous people living in the region and stop sending military forces who hail from other regions and recruit the local people for the military in order to be able to make adminstrttaions.
