Where is the rape case of the two young under-five girls in Afgooye ended?

Sumiyo Abass and amino Omar of four and three years of age respectively got raped on 31st March 2020 by unknown persons in the vicinity of Afgooye district after they were found laying in an a bushy area near the town following one day missing. lower Shebelle governor Ibrahim Najah told to media that eighteen person were arrested for the case and investigation is going.

The two young girls were snatched while coming to home from nearby local Qur’an school in their village.

Immediately, the girls were rushed to the Medina Hospital in Mogadishu for surgical operations as their issues were very serious.

The families of the girls were hailing from lower class income who mainly depend on daily labourer in the markets and this issue did add a burden to their already worsening livelihoods.

It is the not the first time to happen such villainy in the area with small young girls under age of five being rapped and it seems it is becoming now something in series and it never happen the perpetrators to be held accountable. As authorities echo that investigations going and moreover that every investigation ends with no public result.

Afggooye locates in a rich agricultural area in lower Shebelle region and it is the southern regions corridor of thirsty kilometre to Mogadishu. It is hotspot for human rights violations whereby civilian killings, day time robbery, Illegal checkpoints, extortion and rape occurs on daily bases because clan militias operate in out numbers of SNA and the continues attack of AS, both the current and previous governments failed to have solution for the issues of Afgooye.

We, as the Somali Peace and Human Rights centre strongly condemn in the strongest possible terms for the vicious behaviour against the girls and call the authorities to bring the perpetrators on justice as we hear that the eighteen arrested persons were released.
